I want to extend my personal welcome to the wonderful world of Esperanto, both in general and here in the nation’s capital.  This beautiful and ingenious language and its abundant culture enrich the lives of all who discover them.  The language itself pleases the mind by its ingenious construction, the heart by its intrinsic idealism and the ear by its euphony.

Esperanto brings out the best in people, and you will discover this also as you make new friends all over the world through this amazing international language.

Washington is itself a city that embodies the birth and evolution of bold new ideas.  It was here on the Potomac that our nation’s founders planted a capital of a country that would prove that a modern nation could indeed survive and thrive as a democratic republic – when most of the experts said it couldn’t be done!

Esperanto is another courageous, idealistic movement that challenges a lot of prejudices, assumptions and skepticism in its quest to better the world and elevate humanity ever higher.  And of course Washington is one of the world’s most international cities.  And so, what better place for Esperanto than Washington?

We look forward to welcoming you as a guest, a friend, and/or a new member of the Esperanto community.

Jim Ryan
President
