PROGRAM: DAVID PEARCE SNYDER of the World Future Society, a
consulting futurist who began his career in forecasting with the U.S.
Census Bureau in 1959; he later served with the RAND Corporation and
directed long-range planning at the IRS. For the past 40 years, Mr.
Snyder and his network of scanners have monitored both print and
electronic media for long-term trends and forecasts that reflect
future changes in society, the economy, and technology. He has
written hundreds of published articles and co-authored five books on
the future. Since 1979 he has been Contributing Editor of The
Futurist magazine.
His presentation, entitled “Now Entering the Future: Welcome to the
New Normal,” will feature an “instant preplay” of the knowable
future, pointing out the opportunities and imperatives that are about
to confront the human enterprise, and exploring Esperanto's potential
role as a lingua franca for a hyper-connected global society.
Of course we will also enjoy Esperanto poetry, songs, news and
conversation. Everyone is encouraged to bring his or her own
contributions to the program.
PLEASE RSVP, as soon as possible, if you haven’t already, whether you
plan to come or not to Jim Ryan via phone (703-445-7008 or
703-395-0036) or e-mail (jamesviii@earthlink.net). Those of you who
usually attend are especially requested to confirm your attendance or
send regrets so we can inform the restaurant.
